CoinShares enters Europe’s UCITS fund market, launching a Bitcoin mining UCITS ETF.

Crypto asset management firm CoinShares has launched a UCITS platform, debuting its first fund—the CoinShares Bitcoin Mining UCITS ETF—which began trading on Deutsche B?rse’s Xetra exchange on Tuesday. CoinShares stated that a key barrier preventing institutional investors from entering the crypto space has been product structure: many institutional investment mandates restrict holdings of debt securities, and the UCITS framework will effectively lift this limitation. The UCITS platform is a fund issuance and management platform based on the EU’s Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) regulatory framework. It enforces strict requirements for fund products on investment limits, risk diversification, liquidity, and disclosure to safeguard investors, while offering the "European Passport" mechanism, enabling approved funds to be sold freely across the entire EU/European Economic Area (EEA). Crypto asset managers including CoinShares launching UCITS platforms essentially package Bitcoin mining and crypto-related strategies into compliant UCITS funds or ETFs, facilitating European institutional and retail investors’ safe allocation to crypto assets via traditional channels.
