A new navigation mechanism is therefore necessary, though it involves complex technical and legal issues. The two sides are currently discussing an interim navigation route. Before the finalization of the new official navigation route, an interim shipping lane will be established first to serve as the basis for the future formal route. On this matter, the military departments of Iran and Oman have already held consultations based on existing nautical charts. Once the relevant negotiations are completed and a final conclusion is reached, the new navigation route will be confirmed.
