Reddit introduces AI tool Rules Hub to help moderators manage communities.

According to a report from The Verge, Reddit is introducing artificial intelligence to assist in moderating newly established subreddits, with plans to eventually roll out the tool across the entire platform. The company has launched an automated moderation tool powered by large language models (LLMs) to help moderators manage communities, and is expanding the use of these tools ahead of a full launch later this year. Reddit has named this tool "Rules Hub". It allows moderators to decide which rules should be enforced automatically, and what actions to take when a rule is triggered. Rules Hub uses LLMs to assess "whether a post or comment aligns with the intent of a given rule", enabling it to "better handle nuances, natural language, and edge cases while retaining moderator control", Reddit stated in a blog post. Currently, many subreddits still use Automoderator (abbreviated as Automod) to enforce rules, but Automod's tools "rely on exact keyword and pattern matching". Reddit said Rules Hub has been tested over the past several months with "new and veteran moderators from more than 700 communities, including members of Reddit's Moderator Advisory Board network". The test is now expanding to "all newly created communities", and will be "widely available" in late 2026. A Reddit spokesperson noted that Rules Hub is optional for new communities. However, Reddit appears to plan to phase out Automod's enforcement functions: the company wrote in the blog post, "Looking ahead, we believe Rules Hub, along with updated systems like Post & Comment Guidance and Safety Filters, can eventually replace many of the enforcement workflows communities currently rely on Automod for."
