Hezbollah of Lebanon Rejects Israel's "Partial Ceasefire," Both Sides Continue to Exchange Attacks

June 2 (Reuters) – Senior Hezbollah official Mahmoud Qomati told media Thursday that the militant group will refuse to accept any partial ceasefire deal with Israel. Qomati clarified on June 2 that Hezbollah and its allies will reject a proposal where Israel halts airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs in exchange for Hezbollah pausing strikes on Israeli settlements in the north. He emphasized the group only accepts a full, comprehensive, and genuine ceasefire—not a return to the status quo before the current round of conflict, stating, “We will not agree to any partial ceasefire agreement.” Separately, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported on June 2 that Israeli military airstrikes hit multiple targets in southern Lebanon, including the towns of Doueir and Naameh, killing at least 12 people and wounding four others—including Lebanese government soldiers. In response, Hezbollah said its fighters launched a series of attacks on Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon in the early hours of June 2.

June 3 — As Israel ramps up military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, growing disagreements between the United States and Israel over the conflict’s endgame have become increasingly visible, putting fresh pressure on U.S.-Iran diplomatic negotiations. Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed he is close to sealing a deal and pushing for a broader ceasefire, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated unequivocally that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will continue its military campaigns in southern Lebanon. Separately, the U.S. military conducted strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island, while Kuwait and Bahrain were targeted by missile and drone attacks — a series of incidents that has fueled a steady escalation of regional tensions. U.S. Secretary of State Takes Tough Stand, Will Not Trade Sanctions Relief for Strait of Hormuz Navigation Reopening

June 3: During a congressional hearing, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the Trump administration will not tie the resumption of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz to the lifting of sanctions on Iran. He stressed that any relaxation of sanctions must be conditional on Iran abandoning its nuclear program, pointing to Tehran’s advanced uranium enrichment and related nuclear activities as the primary justifications for U.S. sanctions against the Islamic Republic. With the conflict with Iran entering its fourth month, bipartisan lawmakers in the U.S. Congress have raised ongoing concerns about the administration’s war strategy and the path to ending the standoff. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) stated that Iran has sought to use its conventional military forces to protect its nuclear program, a move he cited as a critical factor in the Trump administration’s decision to launch military action. He also noted emerging signs that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
