Teaser: Bank of Japan Governor to Discuss Future Interest Rate Path at 2:30 PM Today

On December 19th, Bank of Japan Governor Haruhiko Kuroda will hold a press conference at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time (2:30 p.m. Beijing time) to further detail the considerations behind the central bank’s latest decision and its future interest rate trajectory. Markets widely expect the BOJ to continue raising rates in small, predictable, data-dependent steps rather than opting for aggressive tightening. Additionally, following the rate hike announcement, the Japanese yen initially strengthened against the U.S. dollar before paring gains. It fell below the 156 level intraday, posting a 0.3% decline. Market reaction suggests investors have fully priced in the rate hike, confirming the BOJ’s assessment that the current adjustment does not significantly alter its accommodative stance—instead, it is part of a “gradual normalization” process.

A Whale Falls Victim to Similar Address Phishing, Loses 50 Million USDT

10 hours ago on December 20th, per data from Embermonitor, a whale or institutional investor withdrew 50 million USDT from Binance Plan B, then tested a 50-USDT transfer to a target address for their planned transaction. A phisher created an address with matching first and last three digits, then sent 0.005 USDT to it. When executing the actual transfer, the whale either copied the address from recent transactions or mixed it up during the formal process—resulting in the full 50 million USDT being sent to the phisher’s lookalike address. The phisher quickly swapped the 50 million USDT for DAI (to avoid asset freezing) and converted all of it into 16,624 ETH. All these ETH were subsequently laundered via Tornado Cash.

World Liberty Financial has put forward a proposal for WLFI Token Spending, sparking controversy

On December 20, World Liberty Financial proposed new spending for its WLFI token, aiming to unlock up to 5% of WLFI’s total supply to support its USD1 stablecoin partnership—but the plan has sparked community backlash. Some token holders fear the move could depress WLFI’s price and hurt the roughly 80% of holders whose tokens remain locked. Supporters, however, argue the incentives will boost the ecosystem’s long-term value. World Liberty previously raised ~$550 million via its token sale, but WLFI’s price has fallen ~60% from its all-time high. (DL News)
