On April 29th, as per a report by CoinDesk, Alex Mashinsky, the founder and former CEO of the now-defunct cryptocurrency lending platform Celsius Network, is at the risk of spending the next 20 years in prison. This is the case if the sentencing memo submitted by the U.S. Department of Justice is adopted by the court. In this memo submitted later on Monday, the Justice Department advocated for the court to sentence him to 20 years in prison, claiming that Mashinsky's crimes were "deliberate and carefully planned" fraudulent acts, leading to nearly $7 billion in customer losses and inflicting financial harm on thousands of individuals.
