ZKSync Reveals Hacker Incident Cause: Unauthorized Minting of ZK Tokens from Airdrop Contract

On April 25th, as per official channels, ZKsync put out a statement saying that on April 13th, a hacker fraudulently minted 1.1 billion ZK tokens, which amounted to $5 million. The hacker did this from the Merkle distribution contract that was meant for ZKsync's airdrop in June 2024 by using a stolen admin account. The Matter Labs team verified the extent of the incident on April 15th and started an investigation with the ZKsync Association and Foundation. The incident was confined to three particular airdrop contracts, and all the tokens had already been minted, making it impossible to further exploit through the admin key. On April 23rd, after the ZKsync Security Council proposed a "Safe Harbor" solution, the hacker returned all the funds. The funds are currently being held in custody by the Security Council, and the specific course of action will be decided through community governance.

Glassnode: Bitcoin Rally Attracts Short Selling Bets, Potentially Posing Short Squeeze Risk

On April 25th, Glassnode put out a post saying that as the Bitcoin price makes a comeback, the market leverage ratio is on the rise. This increases the likelihood of intensified volatility through liquidation and stop-loss. Despite the increase in open interest positions, the average funding rate has dropped to -0.023%, suggesting a market bias towards short positions. Bitcoin traders seem to be shorting this round of the upward trend. If the bullish momentum continues, it may trigger a short squeeze situation. The 7-day moving average of the long funding rate premium has decreased and is continuing to trend downwards. This indicates a reduced market demand for Bitcoin long exposure, further strengthening the current view that perpetual contract positions are mainly short.
