The US is considering imposing new tariffs on solar products imported from four Southeast Asian countries

On April 22nd, the United States announced new tariffs on imported solar products from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. According to a decision announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce on Monday in the local time zone, the anti-dumping duties on solar products from these four Southeast Asian countries range from 6.1% to 271.28%, varying by company and country. The countervailing duties range from 14.64% to 3403.96%. These four countries currently supply approximately 77% of solar panels to the United States, with the exports of solar equipment to the U.S. totaling $12.9 billion last year. This tariff decision is the final outcome of a one-year-long trade investigation. The investigation was initiated by U.S. domestic solar manufacturers and launched under former President Biden. While U.S. domestic manufacturers view this as a victory, the new tariffs may intensify cost pressures on the renewable energy industry, which is already facing policy changes and economic challenges. The Trump administration is striving to revive the fossil fuel industry and continues to reduce support for green projects. (Jinse)
